A pedigree is simply a snapshot of an animal’s parentage that dates back several generations (3-4 generations is typical). Breed associations have extended versions of an animal’s pedigree upon request, but typically list 3-4 on a registration paper. Rams and bucks are not required to be registered for participation in the TN Ag Enhancement Program, but a pedigree needs to be provided. HerdBoss is one such way to display a pedigree for an animal whose records are all recorded in this system. HerdBoss is a livestock inventory management system that breeders use to keep track of dam, sire, codon information, lambing/kidding dates, and many others items of interest. Below is a picture of a pedigree generated from HerdBoss.
