Meet Afroza Akter, Graduate Research Assistant

What is the most exciting part of your job?
Getting to know new things, trying something new and when it works it feels very exciting

Who inspires you?
My parents

What is something you find challenging about your work?
I find myself chasing rabbit every time I am working on any topic and find lost from the main topic

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
School teacher and then a doctor

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Working with beef cattle and getting involved with research

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
Baking in leisure time. I was very good at memorizing all the scientific names of the plants/parasites/virus/insect, HAHA

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Hiking and walking in the woods

Which historical figure would you most like to meet?
Mother Teresa

Who do you look up to within Herbert College of Agriculture?
Dr. Schneider, Dr. Pighetti, and Dr. Shepherd.

What’s a skill you’d like to improve on?
Focusing on one topic at a time while working and not being bothered by other stuff

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I have always enjoyed meeting new people. Never felt like an introvert.

What’s your least favorite chore around the house?
Doing laundry

How would your friends describe you?
Sincere, kind, and friendly

What piece of advice would you give your 18 year old self?
Always be positive, grateful, and work hard. Worry less, something good is waiting for you. Always believe that life is beautiful and will be.
