
Dr. Laura Devlin Bacon grew up on a family farm and marina bordering tidal salt marshes of the Delaware River. She earned a B.S. in Biology from Ursinus College in 1994 before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, to work as a dissecting technician for CryoLife. In 1996, she moved to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2000.
Since graduation, Dr. Bacon has practiced in the Knoxville area, focusing on patient care and improving access to veterinary medicine. Her professional accomplishments include founding and scaling an AAHA-accredited practice in Seymour, TN, establishing the Knoxville location of Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, and founding East Tennessee Veterinary Ultrasound in Farragut, TN.
In 2009, Dr. Bacon was awarded Diplomate Status in Canine and Feline practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). She continues to practice part-time at her referral ultrasound clinic and is an instructor at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine as well as the Department of Animal Science. Her professional interests include ultrasonography, internal medicine, cardiology, end-of-life care, practice management, and veterinary education.
Dr. Bacon currently serves on the Knoxville Veterinary Medical Association Executive Board and the ABVP Outreach Committee. She is also a founding member of the ABVP Companion Animal Ultrasound Practice Fellowship and serves as the mentor for the UT Pre-Vet club.
