Meet Lew Strickland, Associate Professor and Extension Veterinarian

What is the most exciting part of your job?
Nothing is the same from day to day. Sure, most of my calls are Extension agents or owners with health questions, but I never know what it will be. It could go from a horse to a goat, or back yard poultry. Just like Forrest said; “you never know what you gonna get”

Who inspires you?
My Daddy was and still is an inspiration to me, but my wife and kids now.

What is something you find challenging about your work?
Keeping one step ahead of all the smart AS & CVM students I work with

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A cotton farmer, but I’m still working on the growing up part..

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Whatever my spousal unit and offspring want to do

Which historical figure would you most like to meet?
Geronimo & Sitting Bull. I want to hear their side of the story

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I broke the introvert scale, and they have not found one since that goes that high

What’s your least favorite chore around the house?

What piece of advice would you give your 18 year old self?
One of my kids went on a mission trip to England and brought back a coffee mug that has the inscription, “keep calm and carry on” so, keep calm ad carry on and pay attention to those around you in the mean time
